CHRA stands for Centre Housing Rotating Assembly. It is the core cartridge of the turbocharger — the rotating shaft, bearing assembly, and compressor/turbine wheels all housed within the centre section. Replacing the CHRA allows the core to be renewed while reusing compatible compressor and turbine housings where applicable.

Depending on the application and condition of the existing turbo housings, replacing the CHRA cartridge can be a more economical way to restore turbo performance than replacing the full assembly.
